Common issues and solutions for steel ring sludge suction pipes (四)

Four: Steel ring corrosion or protrusion

Issue Phenomenon: Rust visible on steel ring at the end or damaged part of the pipeline, or steel ring protruding from the PE layer.

Main Causes:

1. Improper end face treatment: After cutting the pipe, the steel ring at the end face is not fully covered and sealed by the PE layer, coming into contact with water or air, leading to corrosion.

2. Pipe body damage: Once the pipe wall is damaged, water and air directly contact the internal steel ring, causing rapid corrosion. Corrosion products (rust) expand in volume, further pushing apart the PE layer, exacerbating the problem.

Solutions:

1. Correct sealing after cutting: If cutting the pipeline on-site is necessary, proper sealing of the end face must be done. The steel ring at the end face can be completely wrapped and sealed with PE welding rods, or a special end cap can be used.

2. Prompt repair of damage: Repair any pipe wall damage immediately to prevent moisture ingress and corrosion of the steel ring.

Preventive Measures:

Purchase pre-fabricated pipe sections: Provide accurate lengths to suppliers to have end fittings prefabricated at the factory, ensuring optimal sealing.

Standardize construction: Avoid rough handling that causes pipe damage.
